Like the angels in Wenders's movies, a tourist is allowed to observe and record what they see. But some tourists, like Damiel in Wings of Desire (1987), want to do something more than just look at life in the City through a glass jar. Some people want to actually participate, to jump in to the stream of life, and really experience what it is like to be a Berliner, a Santiagan, to learn how to live in Culcutta or in Beijing. And like Cassiel in Faraway So Close!, some tourists might also like to contribute, to do something worthwhile and meaningful, both for themselves, and for others around them. This is what some tourists do.
