Tourists don't just see, however, they also buy things like postcards on which they sometimes write some of their reflections and post off to friends and family, reflecting as they do, on their experiences. These things are products, or at least by-products, of the tourist's role as observer. Tourist's "observations" are not like the Classical or Renaissance observers. Tourists do not stand ideally outside or remain fixed in an absolute relation to the time-space they see as a beneficent panoptic God.
