Language and Discourse – (i) Singing Space into Being
Space is not just geography – space is also symbolic. It is brought into being, into the realms of knowing, when it is identified in language. Space is both initially shaped and formed in acts of naming, an act of identification. Empty space remains open, however, irrespective of who occupies it. Empty space takes no consideration of where its occupier comes from, what they believe, or what they have to say or do with it.
