Tourists create a space of reflection, as well as observation. Tourists consider and respond in the places they are in. Sometimes, either through ignorance or in innocence, tourists transgress the codes and rules that governs that space, rules that can appear natural, common sense-ical, even innate to the citizen.
Like every foreigners – temporary or permanent – tourists remind the citizen that every law and convention, even language, is a human invention. Even the social relations in the Global City are the product of consensus and agreement between people. Tourists and foreigners both unsettle and liberate the citizen by reminding them that nothing in the City is fixed.
