Claudia of L'Avventura, for much of the film, is merely a bemused witness to the romances of others and the comic dolor of her wealthy friends. She is temporarily not caught in the same networks that would impel her friend, Anna, to attempt what may have been a fatal escape. Anna vanishes without a trace, and what little we know about her is that she was not excited about being passed from the role of daughter to that of wife. She is perhaps, even, in love with Claudia.
